In June 2018, Akon The star celebrity Senegal rapper unveiled plans to create their own cryptocurrency called typical Akoin, in a statement that was initially dismissed by many under the name Econ. Not only that, the country's president, Mackie Saul, has announced that he is building his 'crypto city' in his native Senegal on a gift of 2 thousand acres. When this is over, you can blame him for not being human to your words.

The hip-hop star and founder of Senegal has now announced that it has "finalized a deal for Akon City in Senegal". To add more flesh to his argument, he posted a picture with the president of the country, holding a bunch of official-looking files, possibly containing the documents signed for the aforementioned Akron City.

At the time of the original announcement in 2018, Akon claimed that the proposed development was "the first 100% crypto-based city of its kind with AKOIN in the middle of the transaction." According to the official AKON website, the upcoming city is only a 5-minute drive from the new Dakar International Airport, and close to the coast. The website, which describes Crypto City as a "real-life Wakanda", says the "master-planned city" includes "everything from residential to retail, parks, stadiums, light manufacturing, universities and schools."

Please note that Akon and its supporters have not yet published a white paper on the proposed cryptocurrency, which makes it impossible to know what we are seeing. Given the steady influx of failed and deceptive ICOs (early coin offerings) over the years, it is advisable to take the entire Akan City hype with a pinch of salt until we have something more solid in the coming days.
